O que esses caras fazem é basicamente aproveitar uma substância que antes era descartada no processo de fabricação de papel. A 'lignina' é um polímero presente nas células das plantas, e agora ela é usada para produzir uma liga que repõe o plástico e, sim, é biodegradável como a madeira.
